I believe there is no right and wrong, it is only opinion.

Well I'm a Christian..

I believe that all of the old testament part of the Bible is true (that is stuff like the creation of the earth, wars, and other interesting things)

However, the New Testament (how Jesus died and saved everyone from there sins, and some other topics) is confusing.. you have to have alot of faith to believe in that
-
I believe this because the scientific knowledge of the creation of everything doesn't make sense.. Even if a big meteor did hit earth and somehow that rock created life, where did that rock come from? A different planet? Well then, how was that planet made without someone or something or some type of force creating it? It's just hard to understand.

note: I don't really want these questions answered by anyone, so just continue on...

Let's see:

- I was born and raised a Christian.
- Then in my teenage years I was briefly a marxist / atheist.
- Then I was mostly agnostic.
- Now I am a Christian.

By training, I am a scientist and an engineer. By hobby, I am a historian (military and technology) and gamer. I can handle scientific principles just fine, but I also am of the opinion that there is always room for faith:

"Logic and faith are like the shoes you wear - you could wear one or the other, but you'll go further with both."
-- paraphrased from Babylon 5.

I am a Baptist Christian.
Currently going through a crisis of faith...not in what I believe in...just people who believe in it and take it different ways.
To those who say religion causes wars or problems..I just offer this point
Religion..teachings and directions....is benign
People within those religions....ANY religions...can make a religious belief seem evil, manipulative, or dangerous.
these points are the reasons I am going through a crisis of my faith.
Leaders or just those who practice the faith I believe in act or talk in ways the bring about more shame or distrust to the faith. Sometimes it is thier wordings, sometimes it is thier actions.
To keep this away from sounding like a flame post or flame bait..
Question leaders to get answers, discuss with others thier faith, and try to understand your faith yourself through your own understanding (not interpretation)..

I like this thread a lot.

Anyway, I forgot to add a couple of things in my previous post.

Talking about the whole organized religion thing, I don't know, I guess that if it makes somebody happy then good for them. There are a lot of things about myself that can be viewed in the same way, things which I'm not willing to discuss but would probably yield the same kind of response ("If you're happy..."). As long as nobody tries to push their religion on me then I'm good with that. I do have a slight problem with the Jehova's Witnesses that turn up on my doorstep and tell me that I can't be gay or whatever, but at the same time I have some family who are Jehova's Witnesses, and they are fantastic people. It all evens out in the end.

The 2012 stuff fascinated me, and maybe scared me a little too. I don't know if anybody here has ever stumbled across the name John Titor, so if you haven't, Google it and read up about this guy. Amazing stuff.

Anyway, nice to see a thread like this still going.

Anyone ever read the book The Handmaiden's Tale By Margaret Atwood?

This is what I believe is happening to our country now....This type of thinking...we are headed down a similar path....and it scares me to death.

My thought about all this ...

I dont believe in any of those, either gods, life after death and all that crap
Religion is for me a thing made by men to "explain" things he cant understand and he's afraid of ... So when something has no explication, it's a damn miracle ^^

Maybe i ll start a flaming with that kinda talk but.. what d be the world w/o all that BS?

Oh.. and i dont believe in UFOs and Alien either ^^ but Mulder does

There must be aliens out there somewhere...but if they're intelligent enough to build a spaceship to reach Earth, they're intelligent enough to stay out of ICBM range

I believe that religion starts where science ends. Religion is what we want to take the place of the unknown, to mystify and cause wonder, for what we do not know. Science and belief, are two closely tied things, because both of ever changing. Who knows, one day we might be capable of finding god, or one day we might be capable of proving there isn't a god. It all comes down to what we understand and do not understand. I stick with what i know (science), but i also believe in the unknown (religion).

my 2 cents!

It is difficult, if not impossible, for Christians to explain their personal relationship with God to those who are not Christians, just as it is difficult, if not impossible, for one to explain the beauty of a sunset to a man born blind. They are just not on the same page.

There is a Proverb in the Bible...I always liked this one:

"You cannot put new wine in an old wineskin...."

This one always made me think...

I'm a Christian. I think most people have the wrong idea about Christians. Most of us don't think we're morally superior and it's not adherance to a set of rules that makes us who we are. It's all to do with acknowledging that we're fallen creatures and that rules or commandments aren't enough.

This is a great thread. I'm pleasantly surprised that it hasn't been closed or become an all out flame war.
